Emons Spedition sets up rail-traffic subsidiary Emons-Rail-Cargo GmbH

27.07.2010 – Since its first container train in September 2006, Emons Rail Cargo has been evolving very handsomely. In the crisis year just past, this project was a firm component in the intermodal hinterland link-up to the Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt area with € 25,000,000 p.a. and sales revenue of approx. € 7m.

Thanks to this development, a separate company (“Emons-Rail-Cargo GmbH”) has been set up for Emons Spedition’s rail business. Management of the new company was assumed by Mr Herbert Putzmann and Mr Jens Uhlmann.

Emons Rail Cargo provides environmentally-friendly and efficient link-ups

Environment is writ large at Emons. As early as 1969, Emons became a founding member of Kombiverkehr GmbH & Co. KG, so that it was backing green transport systems early on. This commitment has been confirmed by the certification of its quality and environmental management systems since 2006.

Emons Forwarding & Logistics
Emons is facing the massive increase in vehicle, air and sea traffic and the resulting burdens from noise and greenhouse gases, on the one hand, by ensuring proximity to the combined-transport terminals and, on the other, by having combined transports using swap bodies, piggy-back, RoRo transports, and, most recently, complete-trainload link-ups of German seaports to Saxony’s and Thuringia’s hinterland.

To meet these ecological and economic requirements, Emons has set up the container-train link-ups from Hamburg or Bremerhaven to Leipzig/Halle-Dresden/Erfurt (and back again). Here, Emons-Rail-Cargo’s trains run up to seven times a week in both directions, reaching Hamburg’s and Bremerhaven’s container terminals within 24 hours. The geographical extension of the rail-traffic services toward Poland and the Czech Republic is at the planning stage.

Emons’ sophisticated combined-transport concept meets the requirements of customers’ complex production processes and their need for supply and distribution logistics. At the same time, its environmentally-compatible service creates more space on our roads and slashes both traffic noise and air-pollution levels.
