Higher toll for trucks as from 1 September 2007
23.08.2007 - With effect from 1 September 2007, the German government is increasing the toll rates charged for German motorways. The average toll will increase 1.1 cent per kilometre to 13.5 cents per kilometre. Depending on the pollutant class and number of axles, this will result in a toll of up to 15.5 cent per kilometre driven on long-distance toll roads.
Since 1 January 2005, trucks with a permissible total weight of more than 12,000 kg must pay toll in order to use the German motorways. The law on which this toll is based – the Motorway Toll Act for Heavy Goods Vehicles (ABMG) – has been in force since 12 April 2002. When the toll was introduced, it averaged 12.4 cents per kilometre.
