International, integrated networks of medium-sized logistics companies
Emons points the way!
23.05.2007 - Germany´s logistics sector is in good shape. According to estimates in the study "Top 100 in logistics 2006", over 2.5 million people with 2 million vehicles generated sales growth of 5%, compared with the previous year, and sales revenue of € 180 bn. The contribution made by commercial logistics service providers amounted to slightly less than half the sector´s revenue. After trade and the automotive industry, logistics is the third-largest sector today and, hence, an important economic factor for Germany as a business location.
Medium-sized forwarders meeting the challenges of globalization and eastward EU expansion
The importance of border-crossing transport keeps on growing and, with it, the challenges facing medium-sized forwarders like Emons. This is also confirmed by Germany´s Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, akin to the DVLA, in its 2006 yearbook: 91.5% of the trips made in 2005 took place inside Germany, while a mere 8.5% crossed borders. In terms of traffic volumes, however, more than one half (54.6%) of the services were provided in border-crossing transport.
"In view of the strong growth in border-crossing transports and their long-term importance, efficient and integrated network management in the global division of labour will become a crucial success feature in the sustainable, international positioning of companies." This is the forecast of Wilhelm Könntgen, managing director of Emons Spedition. He adds: "That is why we operate three logistics networks: Germany, Europe and Eastern Europe. We are continuously extending, dovetailing and upgrading these networks by adding our own companies and our own equipment, but also by way of strategic partnerships. Our customers appreciate this! It is a policy that enabled us to post sales growth of more than 59% in the Eastern European region in 2006 year-on-year."
