Big family party for the opening of a new Emons location in Cologne

29.09.2005 – Over 1,000 people attended the opening ceremony for the new building of the Emons branch establishment at Cologne-Gremberghoven on 10 September 2005. “We are delighted that so many customers and partners with their families have found their way to us,” said head of the branch, Harald Klöckner.

The premises, measuring 18,000 sq.m., were commissioned on 6 August 2005 following a construction period of nine months. The new-build cost a total of nine million euros and serves as a platform for some 100 trucks – trend rising. Smooth handling of the transports is ensured by 121 employees who have a warehouse measuring 4,715 sq.m. with 53 access gates, two jumbo ramps and one gate for long-sized materials. Crucial for siting were the favourable traffic links to the Cologne-Gremberghoven industrial estate. Autobahns A3, A4 and A59 are located in the immediate vicinity of the new branch establishment.

In planning the new-build, security played an important role. After all, the Cologne firm processes more than 300,000 shipments a year. For optimal shipment tracing, monitoring and avoiding loss, over 100 cameras are used. “The CCTV systems secure both the new branch establishment and all other German branches in the Emons Group. Thanks to systematic quality management, the loss ratio is at a value of some two per mil – that’s below the sector’s general average,” adds head of forwarding Bernd Jungmann.
