NewsEmons Spedition offers a region-wide service, even into the Czech Republic19.07.2007 – The economy of the EU Member States is growing. This is flanked by rising demand for goods both from consumers and enterprises. More and more goods are being transported from the place of production to the place of consumption – and increasingly across borders. In the Czech Republic flows of goods are clearly on the rise in domestic and international traffic. Consumption and economic growth have been rising since 1999 already. ![]() Source: German Office for Foreign Trade Legend: The Czech transport and logistics sector benefits from increasing flows of goods. Particularly since EU accession on 01.05.2004 this sector has been driven by the expanding car and electronics industries and by retail. Just over a quarter of a million people contribute to a tenth of the gross domestic product. Czech foreign trade saw a dynamic development from 2004 to 2006, as the following diagram shows:
In general, the Czech Republic’s trade relations now focus on the European Union. In 2006 the EU was the destination of 83.9% of Czech exports and the source of 70% of imports. Hence, around 77% of Czech foreign trade was transacted with the EU. The most-forwarded goods in either direction were vehicles and semi-finished vehicle products, electrical equipment, industrial machines and accessories, metal products, iron and steel products and special machines. The main trade partner of the Czech Republic within the European Union is by a wide margin – as shown below – Germany:
