Emons is turning 90 – not too old and certainly not too young
Cologne, 12-12-2018 – In 1928, brothers Peter and Wilhelm Emons started with their first truck.
Peter maintained contact with the customers and Willi was the hands-on guy driving the truck, initially between Cologne and Nuremberg.
By the 1960s, routes known in the industry as milk runs were driven. Five times a week, a truck rumbled along to various freight forwarders with consolidated cargo and delivered sublots directly to recipients along the way.
As a pioneer, Emons started the first regular service – with the later much vaunted transshipment transport – using just one driver, the way general cargo usually works today. The driver returned to their starting point within one shift. Emons was also a founding member of the resource-saving combined transport.
“Nothing is good at the start,” Peter Emons liked to say. Too much is not good, too little is also not good. The same is true for too large, too small, etc., – the brothers always agreed here. That is still as true today as ever. The following generations have taken this adage to heart, and guided the growth of Emons with care – not too fast but not too slow. Thanks to our many, and as we hope, satisfies customers, the company has indeed grown carefully.
90 years later, Emons is still a success in the market. In the meantime, there are more than 3,000 employees around the world in 19 countries at more than 100 locations, working in all areas including airfreight and ocean freight, on the rails and over the road, and logistics.
Just as in the early days, we place a strong focus on customer proximity, reliability, and top quality service. These values are very important to us, just like a good working environment – what we like to call our “Emonsionality”.
Ever since the company was set up in 1928, the name Emons has stood for dependable and flexible transport and logistics services. As a medium-sized, independent, family-run company with more than 100 branches in Germany, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, the UAE, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, the USA and Belarus, Emons Spedition is an established enterprise in this sector.
